Grid Connected System: a solar system connected in parallel with the electric utility grid.
kW (kilowatt): a measurement of power based on the Watt. A kilowatt is one thousand watts. A typical household requires a solar power system that produces between 3-7 kW.
Photovoltaic cells: the small elements of semiconducting material that capture sunlight and convert it into DC power. A group of photovoltaic cells make up a solar panel or a photovoltaic module.
Tilt Angle: the angle at which a solar array is tilted towards the sun. Depending on the geographic location of a building, a solar array might be installed flat or tilted.
Solar panels, or solar modules, are typically installed on the roof but can be installed on ground mount devices. These panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) power.
The DC power from the solar panels goes to an inverter, where it is converted into alternating current (AC) power, or standard electrical current used your home.
AC power travels from the inverter to the electrical panel, also known as a breaker box. This power is now ready to be used in your home.
